Staying Warm in Winter While Pregnant: A Maternity Clothing Guide

Pregnant woman in fleece-lined maternity pants

Being pregnant in winter comes with its own challenges. Your regular coat may not close, the wind finds every gap and you still need to get to work, appointments and the grocery store. With the right layers, you can stay warm without feeling bulky.

Start from the bottom: warm pants

Thin leggings are rarely enough when the temperature drops. Fleece-lined maternity pants keep your legs warm on the walk outside and stay comfortable indoors. Our FloSnug Fleece-Lined Wide-Leg Pants have a soft brushed interior and an over-the-bump panel that keeps your belly covered.

Layer on top

  • Base layer: a fitted long-sleeve top or thermal that covers the bump.
  • Middle layer: a soft knit or fleece.
  • Outer layer: a coat that closes over your bump, or a coat extender if yours does not.

Layers are better than one heavy sweater. Pregnancy can make you feel warmer than usual, and layers let you adjust when you step into a heated store or office.

Protect your belly and back

Long tops and high-rise maternity pants keep your lower back and belly covered when you bend or reach. A gap between your top and pants is where the cold gets in.

Feet and hands

  • Waterproof boots with good grip. Your balance changes during pregnancy, so slippery soles are worth avoiding.
  • Warm socks with a little room, since feet can swell.
  • Gloves and a scarf in your bag at all times.

Inside the house

Swap to cozy wide-leg pants like FloCozy or FloMove, add thick socks and keep a blanket nearby on the sofa.
