What to Wear in Each Trimester: A Comfort-First Guide

You do not need a whole new wardrobe the day you find out you are pregnant. A few well-chosen pieces, added at the right moment, will keep you comfortable without filling your closet with things you only wear for a few weeks.

First trimester: keep what still fits

In the early weeks, most of your clothes will probably still fit. What often changes first is how waistbands feel. This is a good moment to swap tight jeans for softer pieces and to try your first pair of maternity leggings, so you already have something comfortable when your bump starts to show.

Second trimester: build your basics

This is usually when your bump becomes visible and regular bottoms stop cooperating. Focus on a few basics you can wear on repeat:

  • One or two pairs of over-the-bump leggings in neutral colours.
  • A pair of maternity bike shorts for workouts, warm days or wearing under dresses.
  • Long, stretchy tops and an open cardigan or jacket that does not need to close.

Third trimester: comfort above everything

In the last months, comfort becomes the priority. Soft, high-stretch fabrics and a wide waistband that sits over your bump make a real difference when you are on your feet, sitting for long periods or simply resting at home.

After baby: keep your favourites

Many mamas keep wearing their maternity leggings in the postpartum months, while their body finds its new normal. A stretchy, seamless pair is easy to pull on when you have very little time for yourself.

The short version

Pick pieces that grow with you instead of pieces that fit you for a few weeks. That is the idea behind our SculptBump leggings and BumpFlex bike shorts: one pair, every trimester.
